Autism and SPD still makes no sense to me. How can it manifest itself SO differently in each child? Who ever decided to use the puzzle piece as a logo was right on. I am trying to make sense of autism and SPD. This diagnosis does not mean the end of the world, but it was the beginning of a very long road. First you need to find the correct diagnosis from a knowledgeable group of doctors, keep searching for anything that Will help your child succeed (school, therapists, meds., nutrition, pets). For the rest of the way, you need a wonderful, understanding family(we are blessed to have the best of the best!),a couple of great friends(thank you friends!), a lot of information, and a sense of humor. I am learning to live by the words, “Learn to declare victory and get the hell out!” Throw away expectation, and you may be pleasantly surprised!
Check out this VERY INFORMATIVE news story about girls with Autism, it is worth watching!

Great Girls
Dearest Anna and Josie,
I have had the best summer vacation with you girls. We have hung out some nights super late and some mornings we would even sleep in super late(yes, even you Anna!).Although I am typing about our summer vacation, what I really want to talk about is you AND me. Why? Because I like being in the house every morning making my coffee knowing that I will eventually hear your voices. Most of these days you have wanted to run errands with me, chat with me, swim, craft or just hang out, even if we are all doing something completely unrelated to each other. I love the fact that this summer you girls wanted to do stuff with me, as if I haven't yet fallen off the parental cool factor yet. This summer your motto was "just go with the flow" I like the fact that you chose to hang out at home most of the time when you had lots of opportunities to hang with your friends(though-it was fun seeing you play with your friends when you did get together! AND I loved craft week.). I was able to see a whole heck of a lot more of you both, have more fun with you both and relish in how at ages 11 and 9 you are amazing to be with! I have heard many parents say they are itching for summer to come to an end, but I'm not one of them. Maybe if you were not such Great Girls, I may feel otherwise. So far, for our first full summer in this country livin' life, I am digging it. And I am so, so very lucky to have you both love it too. Most of all I am blessed to have you both with me when you wake up to our late night family games...I will miss this summer. Thanks for a wonderful time Anna and Josie.

BLINK
Where is that sweet cheeked, beautiful baby girl that lived with us for such a short time? How is it that in a figurative blink, she became this sweet, beatiful sweet cheeked happy medium sized girl we see everyday? From almost one to almost 9....Did we blink? I know we didn't miss a thing, but why is it that I can't clearly recall the way you smelled or what you said each moring when you woke up...
Now you are a medium girl, just between childhood and the pre-teen thing. You feed yourself, you clothe yourself and most importantly, you think for yourself. I forget how fast this little journey is going. I forget that I won't remember the smell of your hair the way you love silly putty and collect bouncey balls or how much you love chocolate chip Z bars, pet shops or Dolly. This is my reminder to keep my eyes a little more open and my pen handy to remember what can happen in a Blink.

Josie, Mia and some H2O add up to one great 9th Birthday!
My baby is 9!!!!It seems not so long ago I was afraid of letting her be in the kiddie pool with her swimmys on and me holding her tiny hand. Now she is body surfing at Kalahari with her "BFF" by herself, while she waves to me from the line. Josie is not big on birthday parties that involve a lot of people, but this girl loves to celebrate Big! She decided that she would like to go to Kalahari indoor water park and take her best friend Mia. SHE LOVED it!!! You can tell by the photos that they had a pretty good celebration. We had such a wonderful time watching Josie smile, laugh, and splash to ring in her ninth year!!! We all love you so much Josie! You are such a blessing to all those around you!XOXOXOXOXOXXO

Another Birthday at the Hartford Fair (and another year older)
We have had such mild weather for Ohio this summer....then the dog days hit just in time for the fair!!Even though it was sweltering out, we made our annual family trip to the Hartford fair!! This fair is as close as you can come to the county fair in Charlottes Web. This year we watched the 4-H group show their Rabbitts. It brought back memories of my 4-H
Days!! We also witnessed a turkey being washed before the young man showed him. Two families that we are friends with went to the Harford Fair this year, and they reported back to me that it is such a wonderful, clean, and full of hometown fun,if you have not been you need to go next year! I actually look forward to my birthday because I know that the Fair is waiting for us to have shake-up lemonaid, smell the barn smells, see the 4-h kids showing, get something fried on a stick(we counted 42 different fried on a stick goodies this year!) and enjoy my family as we all are sweating bullets in the horse barn. I love the Fair!!
