Barn yard Chatter: Our Peeps have Arrived
We are dancing to polka music.... Mom and Dad actually bought our Gossip Girls two weeks ago, and we have been flappin' our armswhile reaping the beautiful rewards....yummy organic brown and pink eggs!
Wandering the yard, the girls tend to move in a little pack, keeping each other company while pecking at the grass, catching bugs,or gobbling worms. If one gets excited and starts running or flapping her wings, the others will follow her lead before they all trail off and look around as if wondering, Now why was I running again??If the Gossip Girls see a hawk overhead they have a screamlike "Bok-BOK bok!" and then run near us to protect them. Sometimes they will make gentle cooing sounds to show their contentment..
Josie and Anna have been amazed that they gift us with an egg each every day. We marvel at the beautiful tan and pinks the eggs are. Our first batch we could not believe how an egg yolk could be so deep in orange color. We ate them ceremoniously on Easter morning and decided that they were the best eggs we have ever eaten.
Desperate for more Josie and Anna (and Mom, Dad, Joe and I)love going to the nest boxes to just see if they have laid any more.
So my homesteading fantasy continues to come to life...first came the chickens and who knows what is next for this country girl. For now the Gossip Girls are enough, and we now know we will never get our eggs from the supermarket again, thanks Mom and Dad!!
