It is a family tradition, along with our 3 Pups to visit Old Mans Haven and stay in cabin #1 for a couple of nights every year. We have been hot tubbin' it at this same cabin for about 6 years now. Before staying at Old Mans Haven in Hocking Hills, we would stay at random places. But, Cabin #1 hooked us in with the dollar game!Guests hide dollar bills in the cabin with a clue to help you find it. When we first started staying here,10- 1.00 bills were hidden in the cabin. Everyone began leaving more dollar bills of their own,and it was getting up to 20-25, 1.00 dollar bills to find! This time there were Two 50.00 bills to find plus about 15, 1.00dollar bills!!! The girls love it!!They could not believe that there were TWO Fifty Dollar Bills to find ~ neither could Joe or I! Anna and Josie found one of the 50.00 dollar bills from the clue "Scottie, beam me up". We had to explain some Trekkie talk to the girls, then they were on the hunt. They thought that it could be in the remotes, because maybe to beam Scottie up they used a hand held device to lift him up in the air. Nope not in the remotes-good creative thinking! Anna and Josie then thought to look on the wood beam that is above us wrapped in pretty white lights. They rushed to the loft that looks over they top of the beam and then all of a sudden Joe and I heard screams of such excitement that they could see the Fifty Dollars!! Still after all these years the girls get a kick out of the dollar game!
We also get to see our dollars that we have left behind with our names written on them and our clues that we left behind 6 years ago! Joe and I love how there is now over 120.00 dollars hidden in this cabin now! Everyone love the fun of this game and it is so cool how over the years we have seen the dollar game increase in clues and the amount!Anna and Josie back in 2002 had drawn pictures in the journals for clues~ they got such a kick to see that they had left there mark in this same cabin when they were only four and two years old!! Now at 11 and 8 they still have just has much fun and get just as excited, I love that!
Joe and I always say that we need to find a place that has more to do since the girls are getting older.Cabin #1 is very similar to our own home~ it is in the country with woods to explore in the back, and no people around! We basically hang out, play games,go in the jacuzzi and hike. When we ask the girls about going to another place for a quick get away they scream in unison "No, we LOVE coming here!"
I think they really enjoy the simplicity of the place. There are no phones, no Wii, the T.V gets limited channels, but it does have Joe, Anna, Josie, the 3 pups, some board games our Nerf guns, and plenty of sticks to make s'mores. So, Cabin #1 even though you are not the most exciting place to get away to, I have a feeling that we will be back to laugh, dance, snuggle and hunt within your wooden log walls another year...thanks for all the memories and magic that you hold for all of us here!
